All About HDMI

HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is a connector and cable capable of transmitting high quality and high bandwidth streams of audio and video between devices digitally. HDMI cables are used approximately in every consumer electronic devices i.e. PCs, Laptops, Smartphones, DVD Player, Blu-ray Player, etc.

Benefits of HDMI over traditional approach includes the reduction in the no of cables. Now, we use only one cable for transmitting audio and video, instead of separate cables. Also, HDMI connectivity goes for improvement in aspect ratio (16:9), resolution, frame rates and quality. In HDMI we also get benefits of increased frame rates to smooth out our content.

HDMI cables can be found in 3 basic sizes. We get Regular HDMI, mini HDMI, and micro HDMI. Regular HDMI cables are used in laptops, PCs, Video Games, etc. mini HDMI ports are found in DSLRs, High Definition Camcorders, standard sized tablets, etc. Whereas micro HDMI is used in smartphones and smaller tablets. Along with USB, micro HDMI is used to charge your phones and many other devices.

The latest version of HDMI i.e HDMI 2.1 delivers perfect audio and video quality without any degradation. Whereas the previous version supports a maximum resolution of 4K. HDMI 2.1 is compatible with higher resolutions up to 10K videos at 120fps frame rates. While the aspect ratio is still 16:9, we will get a better rectangular view. It also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). Whereas like the previous version, HDMI 2.1 will also be able to synchronize the resolution and refresh rates between the source and destination devices. The color gamut has also been increased to trillions of colors.

Because the HDMI Cable transmits both Audio and Video, Improvements are also made in Audio quality. The newer HDMI will support Dolby Atmos and DTS X. This all is achieved by increasing the Bandwidth of the cable. The Bandwidth of the cable has been increased to 48 GHz. While HDMI 2.1 is the future, HDMI 2.0 is the current best choice for all devices.

I Hope this information about HDMI helps. Finally, Thank you.
