NFC

NFC stands for Near Field Communication. This technology basically allows transferring a small amount of data between two NFC enabled devices. Nowadays there are many devices that are NFC enabled and I will talk about them in this post. I thought to write about NFC because it’s the most underrated technology and there are a lot of benefits that we can get from NFC.

NFC has evolved from RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology which uses radio waves for wireless transferring of data. Basically, an active NFC device creates an electromagnetic field which induces an electric current in a passive NFC device and thus storing some bytes of information in passive devices.

NFC enabled devices doesn’t need code to pair up and they are also much more power efficient than any other wireless data transfer technology. The significant advantage of NFC over other wireless technologies is its shorter set up time, the connection between two NFC  devices is established at once (under 1/10th of a second). Due to its shorter range, NFC provides a higher degree of security  than any other wireless technologies, thus making it suitable to use in crowded areas.

NFC Enabled Smartphone: NFC chip has an antenna which is responsible for communication between the devices. It is usually on the back of smartphone at the back case or attached to the battery.  You can transfer data from your smartphone to any device by just tapping the back of the smartphone to any NFC embedded passive devices. Android pay, Samsung pay all use NFC technology for easy tap and go payments system.

NFC Tags: NFC tags are passive devices (i.e. they don’t have a power source within themselves, they are activated by a nearby active NFC device.) that can be used to store and transfer information. These tags can store few bytes of information including contact details or some basic commands. You can store information in NFC tags with NFC Task Launcher available in play store. E.g you can store information like off the wifi set an Alarm and just tap it to your smartphone and it will execute all the commands for you. NFC tags are sooner gonna replace QR barcode scanner.

Nowadays you can also see NFC Business Cards that has NFC chip and if you tap your phone to the card, the information on the card is digitally saved to your phone. Basically, NFC has a lot of benefits like pairing devices, easy payments, executing basic tasks via tags and a lot more. This technology has got a very bright future in the years to come.

I hope this information helps. Finally, Thank you.
