Augmented Reality

Today, we will talk about Augmented Reality which has created a lot of buzz around the world.
What if I tell you that you can view Furniture’s, Refrigerator, and all other stuff’s in your home via your phone or tablet before buying it from e-commerce Web sites. Wow, that’s a dream true.  If you want to fight with one of your favorite wrestler on your own place, you can do that too. Well if your parent’s don’t allow to raise a dog or a cat, you can do that without knowing them. Isn’t this all cool stuff.  You can do all these things by a technology named Augmented Reality. The list goes on with AR.

What is AR?
Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it increasing the user’s experience to see the world around him.
Augmented reality adds graphics, sounds, haptic feedback and smell to the natural world as it exists. Both video games and cell phones are driving the development of augmented reality. Everyone from tourists to soldiers, to someone looking for the closest subway stop can now benefit from the ability to place computer-generated graphics in their field of vision.

Applications:

E-Commerce

This is how you can view many of the things via your smartphone before purchasing it. This will definitely increase your experience and clarity of thought of purchasing a particular product. Many companies are working on the development of a headset that can render projections into our reality but with the advancement of AR through smartphones, augmented reality has seen a real opportunity in eCommerce. In the not-so-distant future, we can expect AR headsets to show you how outfits would fit on you before you even have them in hand. Decorating your new home, trying on new makeup, and even seeing how complex products function are all uses that augmented reality is positioned to address for eCommerce retailers.

Medical Industry

This technology is going to play an important role in the future of medicine. In September 2013, a shoulder replacement surgery was performed by a team of surgeons from the University of Alabama, using Google Glass and virtual AR technology VIPAAR. It can be hoped that similar augmented reality products will be developed and used by doctors in the future.

While there are much more Applications of AR. I will cover them in a separate post on Applications of AR. Finally, Thank you.
